Brainstorming for this project required a storyboard, which I then used for an animatic (not shown) that helped with the timing of this video. This project was also originally going to have information about the synagogues, but I soon learned that the viedeo length would not be long enough for watchers to be able to read these facts at a normal pace.
DESIGN ELEMENTS |
For the synagogues themselves, I decided to paint them using gouache paints and outline them with a muji pen. I also scanned in the text blocks used in the video. I originally was also going to do the same with the background of the poiece, but because of image quality constraints with how much I was zooming in and out, I decided to design it digitally using a Google Maps pathway.
KEYFRAMES |
These keyframes are taken straight from the final video. Many of the small sound effects and layering elements seen in these frames were last minute additions as a way for the video to be more dynamic and keep the watcher interested the entire time. While I think the sound balancing isn’t perfect, this project was a great way for me to strengthen my painting skills and explore mixing traditional media with digital, something I would love to do again in the future.
