Originally, these books were supposed to be much brighter in color, similar to how a lot of modern presses that create special additions of classics have a lot of pastel colors with sprayed edges and such. The colors don't have enough contrast, so I tried to tweak them in the next iteration, but it did not end up working out.
REVISED ITERATION |
Again, I was really trying to make these brighter colors work and was hoping to figure out a way to make them have enough contrast. I also thought that the A in the Emma design didn't have enough swirl, so I decided to change that for the final as well.
FINAL ITERATION |
I finally darkened the colors, keeping the blue and purple but changing the pink to a green. I also simplified the color even more to just have white text, which I also prefer. I would love to see these with gold leaf filigree sometime in the future as well, as I think that would be gorgeous.
