TALLITOT

PLANNING AND PREP |
Weaving takes heavy planning, and I spent a lot of time researching weaving patterns to find a Star of David one (bottom right photos,) and also planned out the shawls in great detail with exact measurements, as I wanted these pieces to be as symmetrical as possible.

IN PROGRESS |
Preparing the loom takes the most time, but once that is all complete, the weaving is a breeze. I first started with a test strip (bottom right photo) where I checked to make sure the Star of David pattern was correct, while also experimenting with different yarn thicknesses and colors to see which one I preferred. These two weavings were woven with the same weft, just with two different techniques, so they look very similar but have a different construction.

FINISHING TOUCHES |
Once the weaving is done, the tallitot come off the loom and the final touches are started. I wove in and cut all of the loose threads, secured the ends of the weaving with knots, and tied my own tzitzit, the long tassels on the corner of the shawls which you can see in the final photos. This is one of the most exciting projects I’ve ever done, and I’m so proud of the results.
